Why It Is Important To Enjoy The Little Things?

My blog is named ‘The Nice Things In Life’, so it is not a secret that I believe in the small moments or things that make our life more fruitful and fulfilling, a word I use quite often. How did I come to believe this? Because of how much I regretted taking things for granted in my life, thinking it will last forever! Truth is, nothing ever does!

To give a quick background check, I used to live in the US for going on about 6 years. I moved there quite young, so all the things I learned and was used to were based in the US. And I loved staying there. I got used to the way of life there and never really gave it a second thought, that one day, I will have to move away and I will lose these things. Now, what were these things? Simple, living one hour away from NYC. To give some context, I loved NYC (and still do, I mean who doesn’t). I knew that we were a train ride away from the city, yet we never went there often. Why? Cause we thought, we were going to be there for a long time. So I never really was grateful for that, and never rushed going there whenever we were bored! I had set it in my heart, that in the future I will live in New York and have my dream job and be happy. So you can just imagine how crushed I was to find out we were moving in the summer of 2020, far away from the city of my dreams!

Apart from New York, there were a lot of things that made life simpler in New Jersey, that now looking back were actual luxuries and something that is not easily found in Mumbai. To name a few, having both washer and dryer in the house, all-year-round fruits and veggies were available, using Macbooks in school for each and every class, fall and snow, and I could name many more! In India, where most of the fruits sold are seasonal, meaning during a period only these fruits are available, and you will have to wait for another few months, I was absolutely shocked to find out that strawberries are not that easy to find in Mumbai. The first two months in Mumbai, where I did not have anything to do, I was very upset and regretted many things. The lesson of being grateful for the things I have right now, hit me hard! Which is why I started this blog, to spread around the message that we cannot waste any time, since the little things in life are not always permanent, we need to live every day to the fullest!

Why Do People Often Not Notice These Small Things That Make Them Happy?

Because they want more and more out of life! And why does this feeling occur? Because they lack gratitude.

The dream of being rich and happy is a dream shared by us all. And there is definitely nothing wrong with dreaming that! However, there is a line where we think that being rich is the only key to happiness and the journey on becoming rich is the journey that makes us happy! If you are not grateful for any of the things that you have, then it simply is useless and your life simply does not get any better. You should question yourself, “How can I ask for more and more things, when I cannot appreciate the things I do have?”. It is certainly a life-changer when you start noticing the small moments in life that bring you joy!

“Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.”

Camille Pissarro
