Self-Doubt: How It Keeps You From Growing And How To Get Out Of It

Overcoming self-doubt is all about believing we’re enough and letting go of what the world says we’re supposed to be and supposed to call ourselves.

– Brene Brown –

Quite recently, I had a period of self-doubt. I was receiving an award that I wasn’t sure that I was the right person for. During covid, with everything shifted online, I have not fully shown my capabilities, yet I was receiving this award. While I did feel nice in the beginning, the seeds of doubt were already growing in my brain.

I started to question what did I really do to get this award and that I did not deserve this award. It really made me question everything about myself and what I did in these past two years. I was on the verge of entering that dark pit of self-doubt when I stopped myself and repeated that I did deserve what I was getting.

Self-doubt holds you back from truly showing your true capabilities and from seeing the different opportunities in front of your eyes! That inner voice in your head that says that you cannot do something, is not you!

If you want to figure out, how to mute that inner voice and how to stop the self-doubt, keep on reading!

“If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.”

– Vincent Willem Van Gogh –

1. Stop The Negative Thoughts!

Pay attention to your thoughts, and when you start to doubt yourself, stop it! Do not let your thoughts spiral down! Remind yourself that you are worth everything!

2. Do Not Compare

Comparing yourself to others just feeds your self-doubt, and we do not want that. Everybody has different achievements and they are unique in themselves, so there is no point comparing us to them! Instead, see how far you have come, by comparing yourself to yourself! You have grown over time, and that in itself is a huge accomplishment!

3. Failure Is Temporary

If you fail once, it does not mean you are a failure. Failure is temporary, and it is good because you learn from it and you grow! Those who have not experienced failure, do not grow! So do not put yourself down if you make a mistake! It is okay, it will pass!

4. Celebrate Each Step

Taking baby steps is still a big move forward! So award yourself for taking that step, as motivation comes after action. Once you have taken that action, you can do anything and everything else! Keep up that motivation!

5. Build Yourself!

If you want to improve in your career or in school, then sharpen up your skills! Read more books, exercise, take courses on important topics, educate yourself! Do whatever you can, to build yourself up! As you find yourself getting better, you will believe in yourself more and all of the doubt will be fade away!

Controlling your negative thoughts sounds tough and sometimes it is! However, you should know that you are not alone in the battle with yourself, we all go through these tough times! So you can start slow and practice what I have mentioned above!

Slowly, slowly, you will find yourself transforming!

It is all in the little things in life!
