Poetry is when an emotion has found its its thought and the thought has found the words.

Robert Frost

Humans all have a different perspective on life and love and death. So many thoughts and questions go through our minds when we think about such topics, that we cannot hold them in. So we get them out, whether it be in the form of words on paper, paint on canvas, or music on CDs. And they are in some ways beautiful, in some ways unconventional, and some straight out harsh.

Many famous authors, famous figures, have leftover their exquisite words in poems and quotes, for us to read upon, and truly wonder about our lives. These words move us, enlighten us and awaken certain emotions deep inside of us, that we have never felt before. And sometimes these words are so beautiful, it is uncomfortable. As though such angelic words would never come out of a human’s brain!

Hence, at the start of 2022, where we are left looking forward to the new year as well as fearful of it, I will show a bunch of poems, quotes, and excerpts from books, that will leave you feeling motivated and uplifted!

“Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.”

– Robert Frost

“My solitude does not depend on the presence or absence of people; on the contrary, I hate who steals my solitude without, in exchange, offering me true company.”

Friedrich Nietzche

“You will never be able to experience everything. So, please, do poetical justice to your soul and simply experience yourself.”

Albert Camus

“Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I’m not living.”

Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

“Before you can kill the monster you have to say its name.”

Terry Pratchett, A Slip Of The Keyboard- Collected Non-Fiction

“The lesson history is that no one learns.”

Steven Erikson, Deadhouse Gates

“I am not sure that I exist, actually. I am all the writers that I have read, all the people that I have met, all the women that I have loved; all the cities I have visited.”

Jorge Luis Borges

“I weep because you cannot save people. You can only love them. You can’t transform them, you can only console them.”

Anais Nin, Nearer the Moon: The Previously Unpublished Unexpurgated Diary

“I love borders. August is the border between summer and autum: it is the most beautiful month I know. Twilight is the border between day and night, and the shore is the border between sea and land. The border is longing: when both have falledn in love but still haven’t said anything. The border is to be on the way. It is the way that is the most important thing.”

Tove Jansson, The Summer Book

“Memories are bullets. Some whiz by and only spook you. Others tear you open and leave you in pieces.”

Richard Kadrey, Killing Pretty

“The fool strikes. The wise man smiles, and watches and learns. Then strikes.”

Joe Abercrombie, Half A King

I found myself drowning in these quotes while writing this article! And sometimes it is the best escape from reality as well as a confrontation with reality! I hope reading these quotes and words from different authors, helps you slip away from reality and some of them give you hope, that some parts of the world are still beautiful and enchanting like these words are! It is all in the little things in life! You just need to notice them.

Wishing everyone a very happy new year!
